Wabi-Sabi Wellbeing Practice: Embracing Imperfection in Person-Centred Counselling
At Wabi-Sabi Wellbeing Practice, I offer person-centred counselling as a primary approach, and do integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) when needed. My goal is to provide a compassionate and holistic environment that embraces the wabi-sabi values of imperfection and mindfulness, guiding clients towards a more accepting and fulfilling life.
Wabi-Sabi teaches us to appreciate the beauty in the imperfect, the transient, and the incomplete. It encourages mindfulness and acceptance of life as it is, fostering a deep senseof peace and resilience.
Person-Centred Counselling, developed by Carl Rogers, emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. This approach creates a safe and supportive environment where clients can explore their thoughts and feelings without judgment, facilitating personal growth and self-acceptance.
The Harmony Between Wabi-Sabi concept and Person-Centred Counselling
- Acceptance of Imperfection: Both wabi-sabi and person-centred counselling recognize and embrace the beauty of imperfection. In therapy, I honour clients’ unique experiences and struggles, encouraging self-acceptance and compassion.
- Mindfulness and Presence: Wabi-sabi values being present and appreciating the moment. Similarly, person-centred counselling focuses on understanding and valuing clients’ current experiences, promoting a mindful and present-oriented therapeutic process.
- Natural Growth and Change: The wabi-sabi philosophy appreciates the natural cycles of growth and decay. In person-centred counselling, I support clients’ personal growth and transformation, recognizing that change is a natural and positive part of life.
- Authenticity: Both approaches value authenticity. In person-centred counselling, I foster a genuine and transparent therapeutic, creating a space where clients can be their true selves.
At Wabi-Sabi Wellbeing Practice, I believe in the profound beauty of imperfection and the natural flow of life, concepts deeply rooted in the aesthetic of wabi-sabi. This philosophy aligns seamlessly with the core values of person-centred counselling, which we offer as a foundational approach in our practice.
